Why bids, not votes
Upvote boards can be gamed with bots, alt accounts, or vote rings, and popularity doesn't always mean quality. A cleared payment can't be faked. It's a costly, public signal that someone believes in what they built enough to put money behind it - and it naturally settles disputes: whoever bids highest holds the spot, no moderation or appeals needed.
